The original 257 acre estate was noted as the emblem of the MainLine. The 26-room stucco-and-stone mansion served as the home for Franklin McFadden, honorary consul to Japan in Philadelphia.

McFadden's property had shrunk to just 90 acres when the club's early founders looked over the property. The founders knew that with just 40 additional acres, a country club for golfers could be formed.

Prior to settlement, an open house was scheduled for prospective members, but a heavy snowstorm made the Sproul Road site nearly inaccessible, resulting in minimal attendance. A second open house was quickly organized under clearer skies, and 20 of the 250 attendees pledged $1,000 each to become Founding Members. Louis Harrison, one of the original members, played a leading role in spearheading the acquisition.

Dick Wilson, a notable Philadelphia Course architect, was commissioned to bring Radnor Valley Golf to life. The course at Radnor Valley, routed over rolling terrain, opened in 1953.

Life at Radnor Valley proved so attractive to the membership that the founders abandoned their original intention of being a golf-only club. A swimming pool was built and racquets were added!

Radnor Valley expands to a 165 acre club, and a sweeping makeover of the course's original layout was done. Bill Gordon, longtime friend of Dick Wilson, carried out this project.

Although many renovations have occurred since the 1960s, we are on a current $2 Million renovation to the course bunkers. This 5-year, winter project will bring a brand new feel for golfers as we unveil each milestone!
